What Is the HI2000 Micro-Module Data Center? #

If you're responsible for a small IT room or a remote site, you know the pain of juggling separate racks, air conditioners, UPS units, and cable spaghetti. The HI2000 micro-module data center from VERHI solves that by integrating power distribution, cooling, monitoring, and physical security into a single, factory-tested enclosure. It's a self-contained building block for edge computing, retail branches, or any site where floor space is tight and reliability matters.

HI2000 micro-module data center core components

The short answer is: the HI2000 is a modular data center in a box. You roll it in, connect power and network, and you're up. No raised floor, no dedicated HVAC, no custom electrical work. That's the appeal, and it's why micro-modules are gaining ground in the Americas, Europe, and Central Asia.

Core Components of the HI2000 #

Let's look under the hood. The HI2000 is more than a rack with a door. Each unit contains several subsystems that work together to keep your IT gear alive.

Power Infrastructure #

At the heart of the module is a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) that provides backup during mains failures. Typical ratings range from 6 kVA to 20 kVA, depending on the configuration. The UPS feeds a power distribution unit (PDU) that delivers clean power to each server rack. You can choose between single-phase or three-phase input, and the system supports N+1 redundancy for the UPS if uptime is critical.

Battery runtime depends on the load and the number of battery strings you add. For a 10 kW load, a standard configuration might give you 10–15 minutes at full load, enough for a graceful shutdown or for a generator to kick in. Worth checking: the HI2000 can be ordered with lithium-ion batteries, which cut weight and floor loading compared to VRLA.

Cooling System #

Heat is the silent killer of electronics. The HI2000 uses a precision air conditioner (PAC) mounted either on top of the rack or as a sidecar. It's designed for high sensible heat ratio, meaning it removes heat without overcooling or wasting energy on humidity control. Cooling capacity is typically 7–12 kW, enough for a fully loaded 42U rack in most climates.

The airflow pattern is front-to-back, matching the standard hot-aisle/cold-aisle approach. Cold air is delivered to the front of the servers, and hot exhaust is drawn into the rear of the cooling unit. Some configurations include a variable-speed compressor, which adjusts cooling output to match the actual load. That's a big deal for energy efficiency, especially at partial loads where fixed-speed units waste power.

监测与管理 #

A micro-module is only useful if you can see what's happening inside. The HI2000 includes a smart monitoring system with a touchscreen display on the door. It tracks temperature, humidity, power consumption, UPS status, and alarm conditions. You can also connect it to your existing network via SNMP or Modbus, so your central NOC can keep an eye on remote sites.

The monitoring platform supports email and SMS alerts. That means you'll know the moment the temperature spikes or the UPS switches to battery, even if you're thousands of kilometers away. For multi-site deployments, VERHI offers a centralized management portal, but the HI2000 works fine as a standalone unit too.

Physical Security #

The enclosure itself is a steel cabinet with lockable doors, front and rear. You can add an electronic door lock with RFID or keypad access, and the monitoring system logs every entry attempt. That's a practical feature for sites where the IT room doubles as a storage closet or where contractors come and go.

Optional smoke detection and a fire suppression port are available, but note that the HI2000 is not a fire-rated room. For high-risk environments, you'll want to pair it with a room-level suppression system.

Typical Configurations and Capacity Planning #

The HI2000 comes in a few standard sizes. The most common is a 42U rack, but 24U and 48U versions exist. The number of IT racks inside the module can vary from one to three, depending on the width and depth. A single-rack module is ideal for a small branch office; a three-rack module can support a regional data hub.

配置典型的IT负载Cooling CapacityUPS Rating
Single-rack, 24U3–6 kW7 kW6 kVA
Single-rack, 42U5–10 千瓦12 kW10 kVA
Two-rack, 42U8–15 千瓦2×7 kW15 kVA
Three-rack, 42U12–20 kW2×12 kW20 kVA

That table is a starting point, not a guarantee. Your actual load depends on the servers you install. A high-density GPU server can pull 3 kW by itself, so you'll need to do a proper heat load calculation. VERHI's engineers can help with that during the sizing phase.

安装与调试检查表 #

One of the big selling points of a micro-module is speed of deployment. But that speed only happens if you plan ahead. Here's a practical checklist before the unit arrives.

  1. Check the floor loading. A fully loaded HI2000 can weigh over 800 kg, so verify the floor can handle it. If you're on a raised floor, you may need a load-spreading plate.
  2. Confirm the electrical supply. The unit needs a dedicated circuit with the right voltage and amperage. Most models accept 208 V or 400 V, but check the nameplate.
  3. Plan the network connection. You'll need at least one Ethernet drop for the monitoring system, plus enough ports for your servers.
  4. Think about heat rejection. The cooling unit dumps heat into the room, so make sure the room has adequate ventilation or a supplementary exhaust fan.
  5. Arrange for a crane or pallet jack. The module ships on a pallet and is too heavy to move by hand.
  6. Set aside time for commissioning. VERHI offers on-site start-up, but you can also do it yourself with the manual. Budget half a day for a single unit.

Once the unit is powered up, run a load test. Gradually add dummy loads or actual servers and watch the temperature and power readings. It's easier to catch issues during commissioning than after you've moved in.

运行与维护最佳实践 #

The HI2000 is designed for low maintenance, but it's not zero maintenance. The air filters on the cooling unit need cleaning every 3–6 months, depending on dust levels. The condenser coils (if it's a split system) should be inspected annually. Battery life is typically 5–7 years for VRLA, longer for lithium, but you should test them every six months.

Keep the area around the module clear. The manufacturer recommends at least 1 meter of clearance on all sides for airflow and service access. Don't stack boxes or supplies against the unit—it's tempting in a crowded server room, but it will choke the cooling.

Firmware updates for the monitoring controller and UPS are released periodically. Check with VERHI or your local reseller for updates, and schedule them during a maintenance window. The system can be updated remotely via the network interface, which is handy for distributed sites.

安全与合规注意事项 #

Micro-modules are electrical equipment, so safety matters. The HI2000 is designed to meet IEC and UL standards, but you need to ensure your local electrical code is followed during installation. That usually means a licensed electrician for the hard-wired connections. The UPS contains high-voltage batteries, so only trained personnel should service it.

Fire safety is another angle. The module itself doesn't include a fire suppression system, but it can be integrated with a room-level system. If you're deploying in an area with strict fire codes, check with your local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) before installation.

Environmental conditions also matter. The HI2000 is rated for indoor use only, with an operating temperature range of 0–40°C. If your site is in a dusty or humid region, you may need to add air filtration or a dehumidifier to keep the environment within spec.

Why Choose a Micro-Module Over Traditional Builds? #

The decision often comes down to speed and cost. Building a traditional server room involves construction, HVAC design, and electrical work—months of project management. A micro-module is a factory-built product that arrives ready to run. For a branch office or a temporary site, that's a huge advantage.

There's also the scalability angle. You can start with a single HI2000 and add more modules as your needs grow. Each module is independent, so a fault in one doesn't affect the others. That's a form of redundancy that's hard to achieve with a monolithic room.

In our experience, the total cost of ownership for a micro-module is often lower than a traditional build when you factor in design fees, construction delays, and energy efficiency.

VERHI 工程团队

That said, micro-modules aren't for everyone. If you need more than 50 kW of IT load in a single location, a traditional data center hall is probably a better fit. But for the sweet spot of 5–50 kW, the HI2000 is a compelling option.

常见问题解答 #

What is the typical payback period for an HI2000 micro-module data center?

Payback depends on your current setup. If you're renting a traditional data center space, the HI2000 can pay for itself in 2–3 years by eliminating monthly colocation fees. If you're upgrading an inefficient server room, energy savings alone can shorten that to 3–4 years. We recommend running a TCO analysis with your actual numbers.

Can the HI2000 be used outdoors?

No, the HI2000 is designed for indoor use only. The enclosure is not weatherproof, and the cooling system assumes indoor ambient conditions. If you need an outdoor solution, ask VERHI about our outdoor-rated shelters, which are a different product line.

How much floor space does a single HI2000 unit require?

A single-rack unit is roughly 600 mm wide, 1100 mm deep, and 2000 mm high. With the recommended 1-meter clearance, you'll need about 3 square meters of floor space. That includes room for the door to swing open and for service access.

What kind of network connectivity does the monitoring system support?

The monitoring controller has a standard Ethernet port with support for SNMP v1/v2c/v3, Modbus TCP, and email alerts. You can also connect a USB modem for SMS alerts. It integrates with most DCIM platforms, so you can manage it alongside your existing infrastructure.

Is the HI2000 suitable for high-density computing like AI or HPC?

The standard HI2000 is optimized for typical enterprise workloads, not extreme density. If you're planning to install GPU servers that draw 3 kW each, you'll need to work with VERHI to design a custom cooling solution. In some cases, we recommend a liquid-cooled rear door or a higher-capacity cooling unit.
