Define the Edge Site Load

The design load determines the UPS capacity, battery string, cooling output, and physical space needed. Use measured or projected operating load rather than nameplate values wherever possible, and include power conversion and site service loads.

Cooling cost depends on heat density, airflow, ambient temperature range, available space, and the reliability target. Some edge sites can use conventional air conditioning; others need precision cooling or close-coupled systems to control inlet temperature in a small enclosure.

Site work can be a significant cost driver. Foundation, access, power connection, network backhaul, security, permits, and inspection requirements vary widely by location.

Remote Monitoring and Service

Remote monitoring is often necessary for edge sites because visits are expensive and slow. The monitoring scope affects the control system, sensors, communication, alarm management, and the service contract.
